Seven students (six graduate and one undergraduate) from the Department of Nutrition, Food & Exercise Sciences presented their research findings at the 2019 Institute of Food Technologists annual meeting from June 2 to 5. The IFT annual event brings together the most talented and creative minds in the science of food to collaborate, share, learn, and network.
Students had at least one research poster during the meeting. In addition, each student was either the first-author or co-author for the presented posters. Five students participated in six different competitions for graduate research, of which three students won an award. Tolulola Adeyewa and Andrea Bernat received third place in the “Protein Division” and “Toxicology & Safety Evaluation Division”, respectively.

Xingyi Jiang was the second-place winner in the “Muscle Foods Division”. She was also selected as a recipient of the Burdock Group IFT 2019 Student Travel Award. Undergraduate student, Erin Bannister, also attended this meeting.
Students had the opportunity to meet with professionals in academia and the food industry, as well as several NFES alumni. They also attended scientific sessions and networked with students from universities across the country.
All students would like to gratefully acknowledge the travel funding from NFES and continuous support from the department faculty.
